“Struggling Households Urged to Check Eligibility for Financial Aid Ahead of Budget”

Struggling households are encouraged to verify their eligibility for assistance with the cost of living, such as vouchers and financial aid, in anticipation of the Budget. Lightning Reach, a platform with over 2,500 partners, assists individuals in finding and applying for support programs. On average, users of Lightning Reach receive around £750 in assistance. Since its launch in 2021, the platform has connected more than 200,000 individuals to over £20 million in financial aid, including grants from councils and charities.

Various organizations, including the British Gas Energy Trust, TSB, and Lambeth Council, are affiliated with the Lightning Reach platform. To determine if you qualify, you can access the Lightning Reach application portal.

Ren Yi Hooi, the Founder CEO of Lightning Reach, emphasized the importance of quick and comprehensive support as the forthcoming Budget is expected to impose new tax hikes, further straining household finances.

If concerned about falling behind on payments, contacting your provider promptly to explore available assistance options is recommended. Providers may help by assessing if you are on the most cost-effective plan or offering temporary payment breaks to reduce immediate financial burdens.

Additionally, consulting your local council to inquire about eligibility for aid from the Household Support Fund is worthwhile. This fund, distributed by local councils to low-income households, may offer vouchers or cash payments, depending on the council’s policies.

For instance, City of York Council recently announced one-off £100 payments from the Household Support Fund for this winter, directly deposited into recipients’ bank accounts without repayment obligations. Eligibility is typically tied to receiving council tax bill assistance.
