Brighton & Hove Albion has secured the services of Canadian striker Promise David for the upcoming Premier League season. The club announced the signing, revealing that David will join on a season-long loan from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium. There is an agreement in place that includes an obligation to purchase David for a reported fee of $29.7 million US, contingent upon meeting certain undisclosed conditions.
Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed that David will be making the move to the Premier League starting from the next season, setting a new record fee for the Belgian club. David comes to Brighton after a successful tenure at Union, where he netted 41 goals in 82 appearances and contributed to the team’s first league triumph in 90 years in 2025. The talented 25-year-old forward extended his contract with Union through June 2029 last year.
Having represented Canada at the recent World Cup, David scored a goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. He boasts four goals in 14 matches for the Canadian national team. Born in Brampton, Ontario, to Nigerian parents, David initially played for Nigeria’s under-23 squad before switching allegiance to Canada in 2025 following approval from FIFA after discussions with coach Jesse Marsch.
Brighton marks the latest destination in David’s diverse career journey, which has seen him play professionally in Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before moving to Belgium in July 2024.
