A missing pilot, David, aged 73, was tragically discovered deceased after search teams located his submerged aircraft in Wolfe Lake within the Kawartha Lakes region in Ontario. The pilot, who departed from Oshawa Executive Airport in a home-built plane on Friday morning and was expected back by 9:30 a.m., was last spotted near Kirkfield. Family members reported him missing when he failed to return as scheduled.
Following an extensive search effort involving the Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, Ontario Provincial Police, and various agencies, the wreckage of the aircraft was located underwater on Tuesday. The aircraft debris was retrieved earlier on Monday from Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands Provincial Park. The pilot’s identity was confirmed, and plans are underway to recover the plane.
The Ministry of Natural Resources in Ontario assisted in locating both the aircraft and the pilot. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is now investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, with a team of investigators being dispatched to the site near Minden Hills. Durham police described the pilot as an experienced individual known for flying in the region south of Kawartha Lakes and north of Lake Scugog.
The Ontario Provincial Police expressed their condolences to the family and friends of the pilot and acknowledged the public’s support during the search operation.
