Irish firefighter Terence Crosbie, 39, has been convicted of rape at Suffolk Superior Court in Boston following an incident during St Patrick’s Day celebrations in March 2024. The verdict was reached after over 15 hours of deliberation, and Crosbie is scheduled for sentencing on October 30.
Upon the announcement of the verdict, Crosbie’s relatives and friends, seated in the front row of the courtroom gallery, broke down in tears during the five-day trial at Suffolk Superior Court, according to Irish Star.
Crosbie was apprehended from an Aer Lingus flight shortly after being questioned by Boston Police Department detectives. It was revealed in court that Crosbie had booked a flight to Dublin after his police interview but then switched to an earlier unlisted departure time before being removed from the aircraft by a Massachusetts State Police Sergeant.
During his visit to Boston for the St Patrick’s Day parade with fellow Dublin firefighters, the victim met Crosbie’s hotel roommate, Liam O’Brien, at a local pub, where they engaged in conversation, dancing, and kissing. They later returned to the Omni Parker House hotel, where the victim stated they engaged in unprotected sex before she went to the bathroom.
The victim recounted waking up to find a man with an Irish accent assaulting her, and she was certain it was not O’Brien. She sent distressing messages to a friend about the incident before seeking medical attention at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she reported the alleged assault.
Crosbie vehemently denied the accusations, claiming he did not rape the woman and had minimal interaction with her. Surveillance footage from the pub, street, and hotel was presented in court, showing Crosbie in various locations during the night in question.
Despite the absence of Crosbie’s DNA on the victim’s body, a jury composed of six men and six women found him guilty of the rape. Crosbie is awaiting sentencing on October 30.
