The Real Living Wage, a voluntary pay standard for workers aged 18 and above, is calculated based on the costs of essential items like food, clothing, and household bills. Eland Cables has decided to raise the hourly rate by 85p to £13.45 nationally and by 95p to £14.80 in London, exceeding the statutory minimum wage requirements.
As of now, more than 16,000 employers have committed to paying the Real Living Wage to their employees. While the deadline for implementing the increased rates is set for May 2026, Eland Cables has chosen to implement the raise early, demonstrating their commitment to fair compensation for their workforce.
Ben, a 34-year-old father of two from Doncaster and a long-time employee of Eland Cables, is among the many staff members who will benefit from the wage increase. He expressed his appreciation for the company’s decision to reward employees ahead of schedule, noting the positive impact it will have on his family’s finances, especially with Christmas approaching.
