“World Nomad Games Celebrate Traditional Sports in Kyrgyzstan”

The World Nomad Games, an event celebrating traditional nomadic sports and culture, are currently underway in Kyrgyzstan. Athletes representing 104 countries are participating in the games, featuring sports from the Turkic peoples of Central Asia. The event, held in Kyrchyn Gorge, approximately 314 kilometers east of the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek, will conclude on Sunday.

Participants have been engaging in a variety of competitions throughout the week, including showcasing their skills with hunting birds and traditional equestrian disciplines like “tyiyn enmei” (pick up the coin). Spectators have been treated to thrilling displays of horseback riding in the Central Asian sports of “kok-boru” (gray wolf) and “buzkashi” (goat grabbing), where mounted players aim to score points by throwing the carcass of a headless goat into a designated area.

In addition to the competitive events, attendees have been enjoying local cuisine and admiring craftsmanship demonstrations, such as wool spooling by Kyrgyz women. The games have provided a platform for cultural exchange and celebration of the rich heritage of nomadic traditions in the region.
