A trainer who only had two horses achieved a significant victory alongside his jockey brother as Oscars Brother triumphed in the Boodles Florida Pearl Novice Chase at Punchestown. The race featured entries from prominent Irish stables, including Gordon Elliott and Henry de Bromhead, as well as Rocky’s Diamond, who finished fourth in the 2025 Stayers’ Hurdle.
Connor King, the handler, outperformed the competition with Oscars Brother, expertly guided by his brother Daniel, around the County Kildare track. Maintaining a commanding position throughout the race, Oscars Brother, the 7-4 favorite, delivered a strong finish, crossing the finish line three lengths ahead of Koktail Divin, trained by De Bromhead.
Prior to the three-mile event on soft to heavy ground at Punchestown, Oscars Brother had prepared in a novice chase at Galway. The duo now aspires to elevate their single thoroughbred in training to Grade One status.
Daniel expressed his excitement at securing a victory for his brother, emphasizing the horse’s positive attributes and the competitive nature of the race. Looking ahead, Connor, a former jockey, hinted at the possibility of entering Oscars Brother in the Grade One Faugheen Novices’ Chase at Limerick during the Christmas period, highlighting the horse’s potential as a chaser.
Reflecting on Oscars Brother’s progress from hurdling to chasing, Connor recalled the previous year’s race with only three runners, envisioning it as a prestigious target. The team’s focus now shifts to future races, leaving the decision-making in the hands of the trainer.
