Diagnosed with cervical cancer in June 2022 after a routine smear test, Wilson endured a challenging period as the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes, necessitating six weeks of treatment before receiving the all-clear in June 2023.
Joining Sky Sports in 2011, Wilson underwent radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and brachytherapy as part of her treatment, which ultimately saved her life but led to early menopause and significant implications for her career as a presenter. Her cancer battle came just two years post giving birth to her daughter Mabel in 2020, highlighting the profound impact of the ordeal on her personal life.
In a new Sky Sports News documentary titled “Football, Cancer, and Me,” Wilson candidly discussed her fears and decision to keep her diagnosis private, emphasizing the importance of seeking medical advice if symptoms are concerning. The documentary also features conversations with colleagues Emma Saunders and former manager Tony Mowbray, who shared their own experiences with cancer, including Saunders’ surgery following a brain infection post thyroid cancer diagnosis.
