The parents of a two-year-old child who tragically passed away at a nursery expressed their disappointment over the circumstances leading to his death. The incident, deemed an “honest mistake” during a busy lunchtime, occurred at Early Learners Day Nursery in Bootle, Merseyside. Emergency services responded to a fatal medical episode involving the child, Jude Gerrard, on January 14. Despite efforts, Jude did not survive after being taken to the hospital.
Rebekah and Charlie, Jude’s parents, shared their anguish through an Instagram post, revealing that their son’s death resulted from being given a dairy yoghurt, triggering his allergies. They mentioned that CCTV footage confirmed the incident and highlighted previous discussions about Jude’s allergies. Merseyside Police conducted a thorough investigation, interviewing witnesses and reviewing evidence, ultimately concluding that no criminal charges would be pursued.
In an update on October 7, police informed the family that no further action would be taken after consulting with the Crown Prosecution Service. Subsequently, the case was referred to the environmental health department at Sefton Council. Rebekah expressed their desire to speak out, emphasizing the need to reveal the truth about Jude’s passing and the emotional toll it has taken on their family.
Describing their son as irreplaceable, Jude’s parents conveyed their devastation at the loss of their beloved child, emphasizing that his death could have been prevented. Following the incident, Ofsted temporarily suspended the nursery for investigation purposes, leading to its closure. Sefton Council refrained from additional comments at the time, while attempts to reach Early Learners Day Nursery for a statement were made by The Mirror.
