Nigel Farage is under renewed pressure to respond following a statement from one of his MPs that seemed to equate supporting LGBT rights with endorsing Hamas.
During a Reform UK event broadcast on YouTube, Danny Kruger, a former Tory who switched to Reform UK, suggested the UK could witness an alliance that is supportive of LGBT rights. This comment drew criticism from a Labour MP in the Commons, who described it as inappropriate.
Labour’s Peter Swallow emphasized the importance of LGBT rights as a core aspect of British values and urged fellow MPs to make this point clear to Mr. Kruger and Reform. Swallow highlighted that supporting LGBT rights should not be likened to endorsing Hamas, a terrorist group known for persecuting LGBT individuals.
In response to the controversy, Polly Billington, Labour MP for East Thanet, condemned Kruger’s remarks as divisive and outdated, accusing Reform of targeting LGBT individuals. She called on Nigel Farage to denounce such statements.
Kruger, the son of TV personality Prue Leith, warned about the rise of what he described as an undesirable political scenario involving a nationalist party supporting Hamas and LGBT rights. His comments sparked a debate on the alignment of values with political parties in the UK.
