“UKHSA Advises 48-Hour Stay at Home for Winter Bug Symptoms”

A notice has been issued, giving people a 48-hour heads-up about an unpleasant winter bug. Health experts are recommending a two-day home stay for individuals displaying symptoms.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) recently updated on social media platform X, advising Brits to “remain at home for 48 hours” post the resolution of norovirus symptoms. Norovirus, also known as the winter vomiting bug, causes vomiting and diarrhea and is highly contagious.

Recent data shows a rise in norovirus cases in England over the last few weeks. The UKHSA warned, “Diarrhea and vomiting illnesses like norovirus are uncomfortable for everyone.”

According to the NHS, norovirus symptoms can appear suddenly and typically include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Other signs of the virus may include a high temperature, headaches, stomach cramps, and body aches.

To prevent the virus from spreading, the NHS recommends that those experiencing symptoms should self-isolate and take measures to limit contagion.

If diarrhea persists for more than seven days or vomiting lasts more than two days, it is advised to contact 111 for assistance.

Regarding norovirus cases, the latest data from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) indicates that current levels are slightly above the usual for this time of year.

The UKHSA stated that up to week 42 of the 2025/2026 season, the cumulative number of positive norovirus laboratory reports in England (1,310 laboratory reports) was in line with the five-season average (1.5% higher) for the same period (1,290 laboratory reports).

Although norovirus activity has remained low and within expected levels, it has started to increase in recent weeks. For further information, refer to the UKHSA data provided.
