A woman named Daisy Link, aged 30, is currently on trial for murder in Florida. Link, who was arrested in 2022 on suspicion of second-degree murder following the killing of her husband Pedro Jimenez, made headlines when she unexpectedly became pregnant while incarcerated at the Miami-Dade Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, despite no sexual contact.
In 2024, Link gave birth to a baby conceived when both she and the baby’s father were in jail. The trial, starting on October 8, revealed that Link’s defense attorneys argued she shot her husband in self-defense after enduring years of abuse. She claimed her husband had assaulted her with a gun during a violent altercation five days before the fatal shooting.
Footage from a body camera presented in court captured the aftermath of the shooting, where Link allegedly shot her husband in the leg, resulting in a fatal wound. Prosecutors contended that Link acted out of anger when she shot her husband and misled investigators by claiming she found him injured in an alley. In the CCTV footage, she can be heard asking emergency responders if her husband was okay and had a pulse.
The jury will determine whether the shooting was justified. Link gained initial notoriety when news surfaced that she became pregnant in 2023 while incarcerated in a co-ed Florida facility without physical contact. It was later revealed that she orchestrated a plan with fellow inmate Joan Depaz, with whom she communicated through prison air vents.
Over two months, Depaz sent semen concealed in plastic wrap through the vents, which Link used to impregnate herself after Depaz, also facing murder charges, expressed a desire for a child. Link compared her pregnancy to that of the Virgin Mary’s, emphasizing the intense isolation in prison that led to a close bond with Depaz. They communicated through the vents using a makeshift fishing line made from prison materials.
Link detailed the process of receiving the semen packets via the makeshift line made of plastic pens, meal labels, and mattress strings, highlighting the ingenuity involved in their communication and actions.
