A man from Britain was discovered deceased in St Lucia with gunshot injuries on a Tuesday. Identified as Kenrelle O’Flaherty, aged 26, he was residing in Anguilla but had traveled to St Lucia where he was tragically shot in Garrand, Babonneau, located on the island’s Northeast coast late in the evening.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force reported that officers from the Babonneau station were informed of a lifeless body near a road at approximately 10:50 pm. Upon reaching the scene, law enforcement found O’Flaherty with visible gunshot wounds. Regrettably, he was declared dead on-site.
O’Flaherty, a native of London who had been living in nearby Anguilla, was reportedly on a brief visit to St Lucia. The duration of his stay on the island before the incident remains undisclosed. Authorities have initiated a homicide investigation to uncover more details.
An official from the police stated, “We urge anyone with relevant information to reach out to the major crimes unit. Understanding who he was meeting and his purpose in the vicinity is crucial. Our knowledge about the victim is limited to his British nationality and visit from a neighboring island. Prompt resolution of this case is imperative.”
In a separate incident, an 80-year-old woman named Suzanne Rees was found deceased on a desolate island after being left behind by a cruise ship. She went missing during an organized hike on Lizard Island in Queensland, Australia, and was only reported absent when she failed to appear for dinner, five hours after her disappearance.
The family of Ms. Rees criticized Coral Expeditions, managed by National Roads and Motorists’ Association (NRMA) in Australia, which operates the 60-day cruise, for what they termed a “neglect of care and common sense.”
Mark Fifield, the CEO of Coral Expeditions, acknowledged, “The crew alerted authorities about the missing woman, leading to a search and rescue effort on land and sea. Subsequently, Queensland Police informed us that the woman was discovered deceased on Lizard Island.”
Fifield added, “While investigations are ongoing, we deeply regret this incident and extend our full support to the woman’s family. Our team has been in touch with the family and will continue to provide assistance during this challenging time.”
He concluded, “We are collaborating closely with Queensland Police and relevant bodies to aid their inquiry. Further comments will be withheld until the investigation progresses.”
