A traveler visiting Rome has issued a strong caution to other vacationers heading to the Italian capital after facing a distressing incident during her trip. Caroline Jansson took to TikTok to share her ordeal of being “deprived of all her personal possessions” and advised fellow tourists to stay vigilant while exploring the city.
In a video, she revealed that the police informed her about thieves targeting tourists, especially those with rental cars. Several individuals had reported having their luggage stolen directly from their hired vehicles.
Sharing anecdotes, Caroline mentioned a woman who had her handbag stolen while taking a picture and a man who lost his wallet and passport from his hand. She emphasized the importance of being alert and watching out for each other’s belongings.
Caroline disclosed that she had lost valuable items such as her iPad and two laptops in Rome. Although she managed to locate her MacBook in one of the stolen bags, it was found abandoned in a ditch without the rest of her belongings.
She expressed her intention to work with the police and requested her followers to keep an eye out for her missing luggage if they were in Rome. Another tourist recounted a similar theft experience at the Rome train station but was fortunate to recover their belongings with the help of an observant officer.
Additionally, another individual narrated a distressing incident where their van was broken into, resulting in the theft of phones, iPads, money, and more, despite being parked in a supposedly secure area.
A separate TikTok user cautioned about a pickpocket attempt on a crowded bus and advised travelers to remain cautious and keep their belongings secure.
For travelers visiting Rome, the UK government’s foreign travel advice emphasizes the risk of theft from parked cars in various areas, including the Colosseum district, Ostia, Milan, and Pisa. It also warns against leaving luggage unattended in vehicles and provides guidance on reducing personal risks while driving in the city.
