A father who contacted law enforcement about his own son inadvertently exposed his alleged mistreatment when authorities unearthed disturbing details.
Thomas Barker, aged 44, faces charges of inappropriate behavior towards a child after phoning in to report his 11-year-old son’s disobedience and lack of compliance. However, the situation took a turn when police arrived at his residence.
Reports from the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office disclosed that Barker was the one causing the distress, allegedly making threats towards a child requesting food.
The child recounted to deputies that when asking for a meal, Barker responded with aggressive language, escalating to violent suggestions. The incident was reportedly captured on video and provided to the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff Leroy Ravenell commented on the situation, referencing a biblical verse and stating that the child did not even receive basic care. The child has since been relocated to a family member’s care.
In a separate incident, a father faces multiple charges of child abuse after subjecting his three young children, aged two, four, and eight, to a grueling hike across challenging terrain.
Distressing footage taken during the hike captured the children expressing fear and discomfort as the father continued onward despite their pleas to turn back.
According to legal documents, the father’s actions during the hike displayed a lack of regard for the safety and well-being of his children, leaving them cold, exhausted, and desperate to return home.
