“Father sentenced to 30+ years for killing infant son”

A man who falsely claimed his baby son was kidnapped and then tragically killed the infant has received a sentence of over 30 years in prison. Jake Haro confessed to the murder during a previous court appearance, which took place more than two months after he and his wife, Rebecca, initially misled law enforcement officers. The incident occurred in Yucaipa, California, where Haro alleged that Rebecca was assaulted and rendered unconscious while changing their son’s diaper in their car outside a store.

Authorities became suspicious of the couple’s inconsistent statements, leading to their arrest a week later. Subsequent investigations revealed that Haro was responsible for the child’s death, although the infant’s body has yet to be located.

Haro was sentenced today in a California court for murder, filing a false police report, and child endangerment, resulting in a cumulative prison term exceeding 30 years. Meanwhile, Rebecca Haro, aged 41, has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody on a $1 million bail awaiting her court appearance in January.

Prosecutors in Riverside County requested a 31-year to life sentence for Haro due to the murder of Emmanuel and a previous incident involving another child in 2018. Haro had previously pleaded guilty to endangering his daughter, resulting in severe and lasting harm, for which he received a suspended six-year prison term that prosecutors now seek to impose.

Brandon Smith, an assistant district attorney in Riverside County, emphasized Haro’s disturbing actions, stating that Haro not only murdered seven-month-old Emmanuel but also inflicted harm on another child, demonstrating a heinous level of evil.

Rebecca had initially reported Emmanuel’s kidnapping from a store’s parking lot in Yucaipa, but subsequent investigations raised doubts about her account, leading to the unraveling of the truth behind the tragic events.
