“Derbyshire Village Evacuated Over Bomb Scare”

A man’s sudden death in a Derbyshire village prompted a bomb squad response, leading to the evacuation of residents from approximately 50 homes. Authorities were alerted to the incident at a property on Church Lane in Horsley Woodhouse early on Friday morning. Concerns arose about potential hazards in a shed, resulting in the closure of Church Lane and the evacuation of nearby properties.

Following an assessment by the Explosive Ordnance Division, it was determined that there was no broader threat to public safety. The examination of two sheds on the property revealed items associated with legally held firearms, which were safely dealt with by the authorities. The man’s demise is not considered suspicious, and his family has been notified. A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Derbyshire Constabulary confirmed on Saturday that the police cordon in Horsley Woodhouse had been lifted, and evacuated residents were allowed to return to their homes.
