“Halfords to Close All Stores on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day”

Halfords has declared that it will shut down all its stores on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day this year. The motoring retailer aims to provide its staff across the UK with a well-deserved break to spend time with their loved ones. In addition to closing on Christmas Day, Halfords stores will maintain regular opening hours throughout the festive season.

Henry Birch, the Chief Executive Officer at Halfords, expressed gratitude towards the staff for their dedication and hard work throughout the year. He emphasized the importance of allowing employees to disconnect and enjoy quality time with family and friends. Birch stated that closing the stores on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day is a small yet meaningful gesture to appreciate the team and ensure they return refreshed for the upcoming year.

This decision comes after Halfords reported a surge in sales and profits in the past six months. Cycling business sales increased by 9% in the half-year leading up to September 26, contributing to a 3.3% rise in total revenues to £893.3 million. Moreover, like-for-like motoring revenues saw a 1.1% increase, while the autocentres business experienced a growth of 4.3%.

Apart from Halfords, Home Bargains has also decided to keep its stores closed on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, continuing a tradition from previous years. Similarly, Aldi will shut its doors on December 26 and New Year’s Day, offering extended hours leading up to Christmas to accommodate customers.

Rebecca Heley, Communications Director at Aldi UK, highlighted the significance of Christmas and ensuring that all colleagues have the chance to relax and enjoy the festive season with their families. She emphasized the hard work put in by employees to deliver a fantastic Christmas experience for customers and stated that closing on Boxing Day is a token of appreciation.
