UFC fighter Paddy Pimblett is leading an initiative to enhance mental well-being through the practice of mixed martial arts.
Pimblett, a potential contender for a lightweight championship in the upcoming year, has been a vocal supporter of mental health causes. Following his victory over Jordan Leavitt in London in 2022, where he dedicated his win to a friend lost to suicide, Pimblett established The Baddy Foundation. This foundation aims to address food insecurity issues and combat the stigma surrounding men’s mental health.
In addition to his foundation work, Pimblett will be serving as a representative for UFC’s collaboration with OnSide. This partnership will offer weekly seminars for young individuals, led by skilled instructors, to foster self-discipline, self-defense techniques, confidence, coordination, and mental toughness in a nurturing setting.
Reflecting on his roots in Liverpool and his journey to the UFC stage, Pimblett expressed, “Growing up in Liverpool shaped who I am today, and it means a lot to now represent my city on the biggest stage in the UFC. Back then, I didn’t always think a career like this was possible, but martial arts opened doors I never expected. That’s why I’m proud to support this program, as it provides young people in Wirral the opportunity to discover their passions, boost confidence, and realize their achievable goals.”
Jamie Masraff, CEO of OnSide, emphasized the positive impact of the partnership with UFC, highlighting the benefits young individuals are experiencing through martial arts sessions at select Youth Zones. The collaboration is now expanding to The Hive, focusing on well-being support groups that align with UFC’s dedication to promoting mental health among the youth.
Pimblett, who has previously shared his personal struggles, encouraged men to break the stigma around talking about mental health issues. He emphasized the importance of seeking help and speaking openly about one’s challenges to prevent tragedies.
