“Blood Scandal Survivor Honored with Dream Cruise”

Michelle Tolley was elated when she received recognition at the prestigious Daily Mirror’s Pride of Britain Awards for her dedicated campaign efforts. The 60-year-old, humorously referring to herself as “59 plus one,” has been a relentless advocate seeking justice for over 30,000 individuals affected by the NHS infected blood scandal.

In a heartwarming turn of events, Michelle was surprised with a cruise holiday during the awards ceremony. This unexpected reward came after years of battling health issues and tirelessly supporting fellow victims while holding the government accountable.

Michelle’s journey began in 1987 when she contracted hepatitis C through a blood transfusion after giving birth to her first child. Despite enduring 28 years of debilitating symptoms overlooked by medical professionals, she persevered until receiving a proper diagnosis and subsequent treatment.

Motivated by her anger and determination to make a difference, Michelle established a support group, collaborated with the Hepatitis C Trust, and actively participated in the official government inquiry. The well-deserved holiday provided a much-needed respite for Michelle and her husband, who hadn’t traveled abroad since their wedding in 1984.

Their cruise to the Canary Islands on the Ventura ship was a memorable experience for the couple. Michelle was overwhelmed by the ship’s grandeur, likening it to a magical Christmas morning. They embraced the opportunity to renew their wedding vows, courtesy of P&O Cruises, and relished the onboard amenities, delectable cuisine, and captivating entertainment.

Exploring various ports, from lush Madeira to vibrant Las Palmas and historic Lisbon, allowed Michelle and Dean to immerse themselves in new cultures and sights. Their adventures, whether by tuk-tuk or river boat, provided unforgettable moments and insights into each destination.

Enthralled by their cruise experience, Michelle and Dean look forward to embarking on more voyages in the future. Michelle encourages others to consider a cruise holiday, emphasizing the exceptional facilities and hospitality that made their journey truly remarkable.
