“Former Olympic Coach Faces Child Sex Offense Charges”

Vicente Modahl, a former Olympic coach who collaborated with Team GB athletes, is facing charges related to alleged child sex offenses and rape. The 65-year-old Norwegian, who is the husband of ex-Olympic middle-distance runner Diane Modahl, is accused of two charges of child rape and five counts of child sexual assault.

Known as Jose Vicente Leiva-Modahl, Modahl previously resided in the UK and is also facing accusations of two counts of inducing a child into sexual activity and two counts of child penetration assault.

According to the Crown Prosecution Service, Modahl is facing a total of 19 charges dating back to the years 2012-2024, including offenses such as adult female rape, sexual assault, inducing sexual activity, adult female penetration assault, and controlling behavior.

James Bolton-Smith, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for the CPS’s Organised Child Sexual Abuse Unit, stated, “The Crown Prosecution Service has opted to press charges against Vicente Leiva-Modahl for several severe sexual offenses, particularly those involving child sexual abuse.” Modahl is scheduled to appear at Manchester Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Over the course of his career, Modahl coached British and international athletes, including Team GB members and at least one Olympic gold medalist. His coaching experience spans numerous years, and his LinkedIn profile also mentions his involvement as a FIFA-licensed sports agent.

The CPS emphasized, “We want to remind everyone that legal proceedings against the accused are ongoing, and he is entitled to a fair trial. It is crucial to avoid any reporting, commentary, or online sharing of information that could potentially bias these proceedings.”
