“Sky Unplugs Sky Q: Shift Towards Stream & Glass TVs”

Sky has recently announced a significant change that signifies a major shift in the future of TV viewing. This move could potentially mark the decline of traditional satellite dishes. The company has officially stopped selling its Sky Q set-top box on its website and is now redirecting new customers to consider Sky Stream or Sky Glass TVs instead.

In a statement, the company stated, “We’ve unplugged Sky Q. Plug in Sky Stream for less. Sky Q is no longer available to buy online.” Those attempting to purchase Sky Q are now being offered the option to opt for a more affordable Stream box instead, with Sky emphasizing, “You can elevate your viewing experience with Sky Stream starting from £15 a month.”

The transition to Sky Stream and Sky Glass is driven by the fact that they deliver live and on-demand content over an internet connection, eliminating the need for traditional satellite signals. These alternatives offer quick setup, do not require an engineer for installation, and do not involve drilling holes in walls.

Furthermore, Sky Stream and Sky Glass receive frequent updates and new features as Sky continuously enhances its offerings. Opting for a basic Sky Stream package is notably cheaper compared to Sky Q, with prices starting at just £15 per month for this compact set-top box.

The move away from Sky Q is not unexpected, as the company has shifted its focus towards streaming-based options due to the preference of a majority of new customers.

For existing users of Sky Q, there is no immediate impact as the update only affects new online orders. Sky Q can still be purchased by contacting Sky directly or visiting a retail store. Sky clarified, “Sky Q is no longer available to buy online, but customers can call us if they’d like to order Sky Q, or visit one of our retail stores.” Alternatively, customers can choose from the popular streaming products, Sky Glass and Sky Stream, which are favored by 9 out of 10 new customers.

Despite the changes, Sky Q remains a popular choice among millions of households and will continue to be supported. The trend towards a future dominated by streaming services is unmistakably gaining momentum, although Sky Q remains a relevant option for consumers.
