A vibrant and sociable teenager met a tragic end after unexpectedly falling ill while at a cinema. Kasey-Lei Greene, a 13-year-old from Sutton Coldfield, collapsed during a movie outing with a friend on September 4. Having relocated to Abu Dhabi with her family 14 months earlier for a fresh start, she suddenly took ill at the Vox Cinema in Yas Mall, Abu Dhabi.
Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene. Despite two hours of resuscitation efforts both on-site and at a medical facility, she succumbed to a cardiac arrest. Her father, Marc, 37, recounted how her friend contacted him from Kasey’s phone, informing him of the situation.
Describing their final moments together before Kasey headed to the cinema, Marc shared that she impulsively requested a photo with him and her friend without checking it. This spontaneous gesture deeply touched Marc, signifying a poignant farewell.
The Greene family’s move to Abu Dhabi in July 2024 was marked by plans to settle into a new home currently under construction. Marc and Manda, Kasey’s parents, fondly remembered her as a lively, outgoing individual with a nurturing disposition towards young children.
Kasey, known for her ability to forge connections across various social circles, was praised by the priest at her funeral for her unifying influence. Over 600 individuals attended her service, reflecting the profound impact she had on those around her.
Despite her bubbly nature, Kasey possessed intelligence and resilience, evident in her proactive approach to every situation. An avid supporter of Aston Villa Football Club and a fan of rapper Travis Scott, she had eagerly anticipated an upcoming event in Abu Dhabi.
Tragically, Kasey’s passing coincided with her mother, Manda, grieving the loss of her own mother, Maggie, aged 65. The family, deeply touched by the outpouring of support, initiated a GoFundMe campaign, “Kasey’s Wells of Life,” to honor her memory by funding water wells in Africa.
Inspired by a friend’s suggestion and Manda’s firsthand experience in Africa, the initiative aims to provide sustainable water sources to communities in need. The family’s dedication to this cause serves as a testament to Kasey’s legacy and her lasting impact on those around her.
